Clinic with Willoughby – VIDEO
February 2008 -
In this video, Ellen is coaching Katie on her horse Willoughby. ”Allowing the horse to meet his own pressure” is a fundamental concept in this philosophy of riding.
As Katie changes direction, she keeps both reins in one hand. She reaches for the new inside rein and waits for the horse to respond. The rider is not pulling on the horse. She quietly makes contact and allows the horse to meet his own pressure against this contact. When the horse yields to his own pressure, through his body to his feet, the quality of his movement improves and his balance becomes more uphill. This exercise also corrects the horse’s earlier tendency to be low and overbent.
